I had a teacher in high school who impressed upon m the difference between Caroline and Carolyn, especially with regard to pronouncing the last syllable (her name is Caroline although for simplicity's sake she lets people call her Carol).
Twenty-five years after, my memory of that conversation is still very vivid.
Oh, a lot of people mispronounce my name, too. I use my second name, but when banks or other institutions call me on the phone, they refer to me with my first name. And I think to myself, sure ... at least I know which people really know me.
